Capt. Rich Knox, the Tarpon Springs Fl. fishing guide of Absolute Florida Flats Fishing and Guide Service reports excellent inshore flats fishing with the high tides of the new moon combined with a gentle SE breeze, using a combination of live select shrimp and 1/4 oz jig’s with a CAL Arkansas glow shad tail or Mirro-lures lil-john tails, we have been catching our limits of quality Red-fish and Spotted Sea Trout. the water quality is very clear in places making it necessary to down size your fluorocarbon leader size to 15lb. we found out the hard way that will not work with our linesiders friend’s (Snook). It is rare to find these fish at some of the locations we are fishing on the barrier island’s in January, my partner Capt. Ben was prepared though after running across a good number gathered in a familiar snook hole, having just caught some whitebait that is beginning to show up again with water temperature’s in the 70″ was able to stick 4 Snook 2 smaller ones and a couple of keeper size fish, Snook keeping is always closed in the month of January due to lower water temp’s that threaten there existence. Excellent winter fishing with a very good number of target’s out there !
